Following a major acquisition by Capreon, Techspace, a leading supplier of shared workspace solutions for the tech operating scene, is opening a new location in Clerkenwell, London. The new facility is set to provide more than 1,000 members with 900 desks and several amenities to support their flexible business needs.

After a £35 million renovation, the former gin distillery at 132 Goswell Road received a BREEAM Excellent rating in 2022. Techspace will open the doors to its newest location in October 2024 and will have its largest and best workspace to date thanks to Capreon’s under-the-radar acquisition.

As Techspace prepares for further expansion in London and Berlin, as well as eyeing a location in Munich, another significant German innovation hub – Leo Noé, Executive Chairman and Founder of The Noé Group – joins the Techspace board.

Techspace was established in 2012 and now has offices in Berlin and London, focusing solely on assisting innovative companies at every step of their development. Throughout the past 12 years, the company supported hundreds of businesses, including Pleo, Plaid, Worldcoin, and Databricks, in setting up their operations in Berlin and London.

Techspace is going through a turning point with the partnership with Capreon on the new Clerkenwell site, as the company plans to significantly expand its membership base from 3,500 to over 6,000 by the middle of 2025.

The latest Scaleup Culture Report from Techspace, which examines the nature of work in the future, revealed a rise in demand for in-office work. With the average employee spending three days a week in the workplace, tech workers are becoming more and more inclined to collaborate in person.

Techspace’s CEO Jonathan Bevan said: “There’s no denying that flexible workspaces are the perfect solution to cater for the needs of the modern occupier. The past few years have seen Techspace adapt to expectations, creating more attractive environments for individuals, teams and companies to do their best work.”

Goswell Road is going to be the best space Techspace has ever had. The 80,000 square foot construction will have three roof terraces with views of the surrounding area of Clerkenwell and Farringdon, as well as an exercise area, a rooftop bar and café, a gorgeous double-height event space, and a podcasting studio open to members. The structure is an excellent illustration of how a historically significant area may be redeveloped while keeping sustainability in mind. It ranks among the top 10% of UK buildings for ESG credentials with a BREEAM good rating.

Bevan also added that “Our new location in Farringdon is a momentous next step; doubling down on a flight to quality, we aim to provide a premium workspace for enterprise-level tech businesses. This deal is also a great example of how an asset owner and an operator like Techspace can work together to acquire new sites. This flagship site adds one of the most popular commuter links in the capital to our portfolio.”
