Laguna Niguel & Santa Clarita on its 2024 expansion roadmap, driven by continued demand for flexible workspaces

TailoredSpace plans to open as many as eight new locations across the southern California region in 2024, significantly expanding its current portfolio. The coworking provider announced its expansion goals amid sustained demand for alternative workspaces fueled by the popularity of remote and hybrid work arrangements.

“Coworking, much like hybrid work, is here to stay,” said Drew Sanden, co-founder of TailoredSpace. “While people want the flexibility of working from home, that isn’t always the easiest solution when home includes other distractions. We’re looking at suburban locations throughout the state so that we can provide space that is still close to our members’ homes and they can better balance their work and home life.”

TailoredSpace — alongside its sister brand, SimplerSpace — just closed a particularly active year after opening three new locations in Carlsbad, Placentia and San Juan Capistrano in 2023. These additions brought their combined total to 10 locations across the region, including existing sites in Brea, Chino Hills, Corona, Rancho Cucamonga, Riverside, West Covina and Carlsbad.

Laguna Niguel in Orange County and Santa Clarita in northwestern Los Angeles County were confirmed as the first two locations slated for expansion in 2024. Specific details regarding the remaining six locations are yet to be disclosed.

Founded in 2019, TailoredSpace offers open communal workspaces accessible through monthly memberships. Its unique business model involves partnering with landlords through service contracts, as opposed to traditional leases. TailoredSpace then manages staff operations, while furniture, equipment and maintenance fall under the responsibility of the landlords.

Moreover, TailoredSpace is particularly focused on suburban coworking spaces that aim to provide flexible workspaces to workers outside of central business districts and urban cores, while also shortening their daily commute.

This comes as a reinforcement of the growing demand for coworking spaces from suburban areas, as a 2023 study revealed that over 40% of flex workspaces in the U.S. belong to the suburbs. Not only that, but TailoredSpace is in the best position to cater to suburban workers, given that the same study showed that three out of the top five areas with the most suburban coworking spaces are located in the state of California.
